MASN Guest Post: Why Jordan Zimmermann was Smart to Hold off on Extension Talks

This week in my MASN guest post I wrote about why Jordan Zimmermann was smart to hold off on extension talks and what he has done to improve himself this season. You can read about it all here, but I will pull out one interesting stat. Jordan Zimmermann strikes out 40% of the batters that get to two strike counts against him. The NL average is 34%. So while Zimmmermann is not thought of as a strikeout pitcher it is because batters are so afraid of being down in the count against him they swing early and make weak contact, and look at what happened when the Twins did try and wait him out. All the Twins accomplished was working themselves into 0-2 and 1-2 counts and struck out eight times.
